Rio Premier Living against Starlink Residential Max — the tier most Horseshoe Bay addresses are quoted. Every figure below is one you can check yourself, and we've flagged the places where the comparison doesn't go our way.
We're not going to put a made-up number here. Run a speed test on your own dish and look at the upload figure — that's the comparison that matters, and it's the one you can verify in thirty seconds.
| Rio Fiber | Starlink | |
|---|---|---|
| Upload | Matches download on every plan. Always. | A fraction of download. Check yours on a speed test. |
| At 7pm | Your own strand of glass. Nobody shares it. | A shared network. Lower tiers are throttled at peak. |
| Equipment | Already in your monthly price. The gateway stays ours — we replace it if it fails, and it comes back to us if you leave. | $349 to buy the dish, or $10/month on top of the plan to rent it indefinitely. |
| Getting started | A local crew installs it. $249 standard — surveyed and quoted in writing first. | Self-install. Some areas add a $100–$1,000 congestion fee. |
| When it breaks | A local number, 830-224-0000, Mon–Fri 8am–5pm Central, and a truck that can come out. | A support ticket. |
| Where you can get it | Only where we've built. Most of Horseshoe Bay isn't finished yet — check your address. | Almost anywhere with a view of the sky. This is the one Starlink wins outright. |
Worth checking your own address. The $55 tier is 100 Mbps, sold only in select areas, and throttled when the network is busy. Most Horseshoe Bay quotes land on the $130 Residential Max plan, which Rio Premier Living beats on both price and speed.
Run the first year. Starlink Max: $349 dish + $1,560 service = $1,909. Rio 1 Gig with a standard install: $249 + $1,439.40 = $1,688.40. Faster, and about $221 less. The honest caveat: if your home needs a Premium ($499) or Pro ($749+) install, that gap closes or reverses in year one — and Rio pulls ahead again in year two, when there's no install at all. You'll have your install figure in writing before you're charged.
Not here. No data caps, no contract, no separate equipment charge, no dish to buy or replace, and no weather outages. And Rio is the only network running fiber the whole way to the house in Horseshoe Bay — the other wired option in a couple of neighborhoods is hybrid fiber-coax, where the last stretch to your home is still copper.

Starlink pricing reflects the June 2026 US increase (Residential 100 $55 · Residential 200 $80 · Residential Max $130) and a $349 Standard Kit; tier availability and speeds vary by address. Competitor pricing changes — always confirm current rates at starlink.com before deciding.
